Using Single Report in Multiple Pages With Different Parameters in OBI EE Dashboard

Posted in OBI EE tagged , at 7:56 am by itsourteamwork

In one of our application, we came across a situation, which I am going explain in terms of Paint application.

We have a dashboard with two pages viz, Central Region Revenue and Eastern Region Revenue
In the first page we have to show the monthly revenue for Central Region and in the second page we have to show the revenue for Eastern Region. The presentation of the data (in terms of formatting, no of columns etc) for both pages is same as shown below.

We can create two reports with same columns but restricted to Central and Eastern regions separately. In this case it might be feasible, but what if we have to show the same report in ‘n’ no of pages restricted to ‘n’ distinct values we may end up in creating ‘n’ distinct reports. It’s not easy to maintain ‘n’ no of reports with the same format.

The other way could be, create one report with the region column as prompted and create ‘n’ no of prompts and use them in each page. The prompt will restict the data in each page.

The request will like

Saved the report as Regional Revenue.

Now created two prompts as shown below

Prompt Name: Region – Central
Scope : Page
Show: SQL Results and the query is

SELECT Markets.Region saw_0 FROM Paint WHERE Markets.Region = ‘CENTRAL REGION’ ORDER BY saw_0

Defaults to : Specific Value and Value is CENTRAL REGION (select from the list)

Prompt Name: Region – Eastern
Scope : Page
Show: SQL Results and the query is
SELECT Markets.Region saw_0 FROM Paint WHERE Markets.Region = ‘EASTERN REGION’ ORDER BY saw_0
Defaults to : Specific Value and Value is EASTERN REGION (select from the list)

In the dashboard created two pages viz, Central Region Revenue and Eastern Region Revenue. In the edit dashboard of each page set the following properties

Dashboard page: Central Region Revenue
Create two sections.
In section 1, add the Region – Central prompt
In section 2, add the Regional Revenue report

Dashboard page: Eastern Region Revenue
Create two sections.
In section 1, add the Region – Eastern prompt
In section 2, add the Regional Revenue report

When the changes to the dashboard page is saved and navigated to the dashboard, the same dashboard will look like

In this way, the user will get to see the revenue of each region in a separate page but we used only one report.

The main advantage of this approach is that, the pages are controlled by the prompts and it’s easy to maintain prompts as compared to the reports. If, in a report, the data needs to be displayed for two regions then the prompt can be changed to display two regions and the report gets restricted for the two regions displayed by the prompt.

The problem with this approach was that, the prompt was displayed in the page at the beginning. After discussing with the users, we brought the section to the bottom of the page so that the user will not see it in the begining (our dashboard pages used to display many reports and the user have to navigate vertically).

One of our team members showed a blog by John Minkjan in which we came to know about hiding a section. Here is the link

We are going to use the same technique for some more requirements. We will blog those details very soon.

Now lets use the technique to hide the sections.
Go to edit dashboard,
click on the properties of the Section 1which needs to be hidden,
click on Properties -> Format section
Expand Custom CSS Style Options (HTML Only)
Check the Use Custom CSS Style check box and enter Display:None

Accept the changes and go back to the dashboard.

We will get the report as per the requirement but the prompts will be hidden.

Love

Posted in Story tagged at 6:59 am by itsourteamwork

I would like to share a story, which I have read in some weekly magazine long back.

Ram went to attend a reception. While having his dinner he saw an old man who is hiding some sweets in his pocket. Ram felt disgusting by looking at the scene and thought himself that “how people can do like this?”

Few days later he attended another reception and he saw the same old man there. With lot of curiosity he started spying on him. He observed the same thing again; the old man took some sweets from his plate and hidden them in his pocket.

After few days he forgot the incidences.

Few months later, in had seen the same old man in another party. This time also he started spying on him. Surprisingly, this time the old man didn’t took any sweets. He was surprised this time. He went near to him and greeted him by saying “Hi Uncle!”

The old man was surprised first when a stranger greet him. But recovered and replied “Hi!”

“Sorry to ask this uncle, but this time you not taken sweets?” Ram asked.

He was surprised again; his face clearly showed that some body saw him taking some sweets.

This time Ram felt bad becase he thought the old man was embarrassed. He said, “Sorry uncle, I don’t want to embrace you, just curious. If you don’t want to tell, then leave it”.

This time, the old man felt relaxed and told that, “My wife likes the sweets very much, but they are not available in every part of the city. I find them in some parties only.

She can’t walk so she can’t come to these parties. Whenever I go to parties, if I get those sweets, I take few sweets for her. I know that its not good to take the sweets, but I love my wife and I want to see her happy. This time I have not taken because she is no more”. When he said the last line, his voice was breaking with emotions.

Ram kept quite for time, said “Sorry Uncle” and left from there.

If you love somebody then don’t hesitate to do anything to make him or her happy.

GLASS OF MILK

Posted in Humor, Quotes tagged at 11:41 am by itsourteamwork

I am sure some of you might have read this story earlier, am sending it for the benefit of all those whose first chance has come today.
One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.
Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water! She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it so slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”
“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.”
He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.”
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.
Many years later, that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.
Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.
Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.
He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won.
Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him fo approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words ..
“Paid in full with one glass of milk”
(Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly.
Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: “Thank You, God, that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands.”
There’s a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the waters comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you neve see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place – And, after all, isn’t that what life is all about?

10 MISTAKES EVERY INVESTORS MAKES ; HOW TO AVOID THEM

Posted in Investments tagged , at 1:32 am by itsourteamwork

This one I got from one of my friend about the investments. Just sharing…

10 MISTAKES EVERY INVESTORS MAKES & HOW TO AVOID THEM

1. Playing Without Rules: By creating strict criteria, it places limitation on the investor and takes the emotion out of the decision. These rules provide a clear exit strategy with deadlines so as to minimise downsize and eliminates the need to make an important decision that is influenced by emotion or hope.

2. Ignoring Taxes and Fees: Always work on profits after tax & fees and not apparently looking profits.

3. Confusing Investing With Trading: Investors care about companies, they look it as opportunities to create wealth rather than income, look for companies performance over a time period. Investor’s most important thing is to protect from losses. They should not go for hot stocks or making quick profits. Investor should buy something that has strong leadership, great business plan and competitive edge that will continue to increase corporate earnings for years to come.

4. Letting The Media Influence Decisions: The market and future is unpredictable. Media creates excitement that drive short term movements but it have no relevance in long term. Ignore media influence and remind yourself why you purchased equity in first place and ask if those same reasons still exist.

5. Taking Too Much Risk: Losing money is the only thing keeping investors from creating wealth. Too much risk generally goes against investor.

6. Failing To Readjust Portfolio: Depending on your age, risk tolerance and investment horizon, draw a asset allocation and built a well diversified portfolio. As same asset classes will earn more than others, over time your portfolio will becomes unbalanced and require you to make adjustments to get back on track. These steps are often ignored, but should be a vital past to your investing strategy to maintain a balanced, protected portfolio.

7. Denying Defeat: When an investment doesn’t go the way it was intended to, investors often make a big mistake of holding on to their losers in hopes that they will rebound. This should not be the case, as the investor’s rules should have a clear exit strategy for both winning and losing position. Nobody wins all the time and admitting that you were wrong can be tangent thing to do. It’s important to evaluate the position by asking what went wrong- whether a fundamental change in company or something overlooked earlier or valued inaccurately or just a short term reaction that provides an even greater opportunity. If you decide that this is no longer something that you would like to invest in cut your looses rather than watching it continue to fall in value. Don’t let your ego get in the way of investing decision.

8. Improperly Valuing Investments

9. Acting on Stock Tips: If professional investors can’t accurately predict the direction of the market, chances are your friend is not capable of giving you advice. You have to know company well enough to make that decision for yourself.

10. Timing The Market: Trying to time the market is a loser’s game and for the long term investor it should be an irrelevant concept. By regularly investing you take advantage of market fluctuations, buying more shares when market goes down and being a part of winning crowd when it goes up. Market timing does not have a place in wealth equation. The only thing worth timing us to be is the stock market, because over time history proves that it will only go up. That’s the only way to outsmart the market.

The investing mistakes listed in this report are common among seasoned professional investors and amateurs. Learn to avoid these mistakes and firmly stick to your investing strategy and you will produce respectable returns on your investment.

I lost weight

Posted in Misc at 1:18 pm by itsourteamwork

Before starting this article, I would say something. The following is my own experience and wanted to share. This is my personal experience and nothing to do with any experiment or any theory.

Few months back I have observed that my pants became loose. Two years back, my size was 38″, which is not 36″. When I checked my weight I lost approximately 10 kgs. Even my friends and colleagues told me that I look slim as compared to one year back.

I don’t do regular exercise. I didn’t started dieting also. So how I lost weight?

One and half year back we have started following a health related program by Dr. Mantena Satyanarayana Raju (http://www.mantenasatyanarayanaraju.com/) in our local channel. We liked few things from the show and started following them.

The following are the changes in my daily routine

  • Early morning before breakfast have one liter of water.
  • Wait for one hour and have the breakfast.
  • Reduce salt in the food that is cooked in my home.
  • After having breakfast, wait for 2 hours and have one liter of water again (in a span of 30 mins to 45 mins).
  • In the afternoon have lunch (minimum one hour gap between water and lunch). Earlier I used to have rice in lunch. But I stopped having rice and started having ROTI in lunch.
  • Wait for 2 hours and have another one or one and half liter of water (in a span of one hour).
  • Night have dinner. This time rice only.

When compared with my previous food style, then I observed the following changes:

  • I had minimum three liters of water every day.
  • Reduced salt.
  • Had roti instead of rice as lunch.
  • And while having food I don’t take water (previously I used to drink more water while having food, and other times, rarely I drink water)

These changes helped me in reducing 10 KGs in 8 to 10 months.

But the important thing to be noted is that, the food that you are going have should be nutritious.

I would like to mention another point. One year back, I had acidity problem and I used to have a medicine daily. Now I don’t have any acidity problem and stopped taking medicine.

My brother also suffered with acidity/gastric problem one-year back. He used to have medicines daily. He also followed the same food habits and now he doesn’t have any acidity/gastric problem and stopped having medicine. You can find his blog here http://blogs.siliconindia.com/ammiraju

Liar competition.

Posted in Humor, Story tagged at 5:57 am by itsourteamwork

A husband tells his wife that, “there is competition for lying. Whoever tells a big lie will win a prize. Why don’t u participate in that? ”

“I won’t take part in the competition” replied wife.

“Why?” asked husband.

“Because neither me nor my family members lied in our life and we don’t know how to lie,” replied wife.

The husband suddenly said,” That is why I asked u to participate. Your statement will be get u first prize”
